Victory !!
"It's a wonderful night. Come on and break it on down." Democrats won big all across the country. And here in the Bay State, we made history. Democrat Deval Patrick is the first African-American Governor in the history of the Commonwealth.

And Deval won big (the race was called at 8pm as the polls closed). In a landslide victory (although not quite by the 23 to 26 percent margin projected by recent polls). No, Deval appears to have won by only 21 percentage points. There was fear that some democrats wouldn't bother to make it to the polls given the huge margins of victory forecasted. Perhaps. Or maybe some threw their support behind Green/Rainbow Party candidate Grace Ross. Not that it matters. A landslide is a landslide is a landslide.

And as for the bigger picture . . . the Democrats regained control of the House (congrats Speaker Pelosi). The Senate is still in play at this hour, but, regardless of the final outcome, the Republicans will, at best, hold but a slim margin.
It goes without saying that the results are widely viewed as a referendum against the President. Against the war in Iraq. Against the failed war on terror. Against Rove-style, highly negative campaign politics and attack adds. Against the hypocritical posturing of a few Republicans caught in scandal.
Yeah, against the President. And, as my regular and sporadic readers should have figured out by now, I rarely pass up an opportunity to stick it to the President by way of musical selection. Here are a couple appropriate tracks for your listening pleasure:
it's a wonderful night.
peace.
p.s. jazz and hip hop on tap, starting w/ a new album by Mark Egan
p.p.s. there's another musical (jazz/out) connection to this post. Deval Patrick's father Laurdine "Pat" Patrick was a baritone sax player in Sun Ra's Arkestra. How cool is that?

Sieze the moment America ! For all our sakes !! Great news !
I feel like it's a new world! I can't wait for Deval Patrick and the other Democrats to take over.
The election is over, the results are well known
The choice of the people has clearly been shown
So let’s get together, let our differences pass
I’ll hug your elephant, you kiss my ass!
Good news certainly, but surely this was just the Battle of Yavin, and we still await the Battle of Endor? The Emporer and Darth Cheney are still gloating in their Death Star...
Deval -- yay! Can't wait until he takes over!
